Review : Jackies NYCuisine Deventer
It’s been a while now since I’ve last visited a new restaurant. So I was really excited to visit a restaurant in Deventer which I have been anxious to go to for a while now.
The first impression of the restaurant was already a very good one. We stepped out of the rain and into the hallway, to be greeted right away by the extremely friendly waiter. After I give him my name to verify my reservation, he took our coats and guided us to a nice little table next to the windows overlooking the kitchen (which looked very neat, by the way!) and sat us down. I ordered a black russian, which wasn’t something they usually made, but after they verified the contents with me, they made me one anyway without making a problem out of it.
I started off with the carpaccio of lamb and even though the restaurant was almost full, we didn’t have to wait long at all, the chef had it all under control, so it seemed. The carpaccio was incredibly succulent and the vegetables tasted as fresh as they could ever be. I could try to find some issues with it but that’s unfair because there weren’t any issues to begin with.
After the first course it was time for the main course and I have to say I was really looking forward to it, because I ordered the Aunt Bettys Classic Cheese Burger and while I normally don’t order a cheeseburger when visiting a restaurant, I’m a sucker for good burgers and I /was/ visiting an American style restaurant, so I decided to go with it anyway.
Boy, did I make the right choice. The burger was one of the best I ever had and was also served with a side of potatoe wedges and fresh and crispy vegetables. I could go on about it but I’m not going to, rather than that, I’m commanding all readers to go over to Jackies and order the great gift Aunt Betty has bestowed unto this world, period
Of course, dinner wouldn’t be complete without dessert, so I ordered the grand dessert (Jackies Choice) so they could surprise me with their best. They did.
I’m usually not really a dessert-lover, I tend to dislike sweet things and usually go for the cheese platter, but I had seen some desserts being walked around by the waiters and decided to make an exception for this once. I got a plate full of sweetness, including things like a small crème brûlée, parfait of bloodoranges and a chocolate mousse. Of course, a small piece of NYC Cheesecake wasn’t absent either. Normally I’m not really a cheesecake fanatic, but this one was one to come back for.
Overall, the visiting experience was great; The personnel was extremely friendly and polite, and was also unmistakably very proficient at their job. The food was very good, especially considering the prices being in what I like to call the medium-range pricing of restaurants. This food could easily be sold in the high-range prices and I would still come, definitely. Good food is one good thing to have in a restaurant, but my overall view of the complete picture is totally ruined by bad personnel, Jackies is one of the first restaurants I’ve ever visited that remains in my mind with a flawless record.
I want to rate Jackies NYC with a 4 out of 5, which is the highest rating I’ve given so far, and kudos to the friendly and capable staff of Jackies NYC, my new favorite restaurant in Deventer.
